The Unit led community dialogue with the returned and relocated victim population, in Cúcuta
The victims of forced displacement in Los Estoraques sector met again in an organized activity to strengthen their territorial roots and advance in overcoming the situation of vulnerability.
In order to update and adjust the actions of the return and relocation plan, the Victims Unit held a face-to-face conference with representatives of Los Estoraques community, to share achievements, progress and objectives to be met within the framework of the comprehensive reparation plan for the victims of armed conflict who reside in this area located west of Cúcuta.
For Alicia María Rojas Pérez, territorial director of the Victims Unit in Norte de Santander and Arauca, “according to the census carried out in this sector of the city, there are 102 victims of armed conflict due to forced displacement who today are part of the Return and Relocation plan, whereby the person or household who is a victim of forced displacement decides to return to the place from which they were displaced, in order to settle indefinitely or decides to settle in a place other than the one from which they were forced to leave.
The official added that an accompaniment process is being carried out for these families to guarantee their social, economic and security conditions of life, and "we want to strengthen their territorial roots and overcome vulnerability with durable solutions".
"I thank the leaders of Los Estoraques sector and the local government for their commitment to articulate actions to strengthen care and assistance to this population, which we have been monitoring to advance in projects that allow them to rebuild their social network and generate sources of income for their support”, added Rojas.
During the social and community dialogue, the community representatives highlighted the work of the Victims Unit and highlighted the initiatives to be implemented in a new phase of the short-term Return and Relocation plan. “We are looking for our own, short and adequate solutions for our beloved Los Estoraques community. We are very interested because among the projects they have is the construction of the communal hall that we do not have, the lighting of some areas that lack luminosity and other projects to reach agreements”, said Hugo Hernández Ramírez, leader of the area.
For his part, Carlos de la Hoz Cayón, president of Los Estoraques community action board, expressed his satisfaction with the update and adjustments made to the action plan: “The process has been very friendly, we as leaders see that the socialization of the project is highly beneficial because it gives us to understand that the institution as such does have the purpose of working, articulating and taking out the projects that are reflected forward”.
The Victims Unit, in coordination with other entities, will continue to work together to implement actions contemplated in the public policy of victims.
