The main task is to continue working for those who disappeared from Bojayá

This was said by the director of the Unit for Victims during the public ceremony that took place in the midst of the final burial of the victims of Bojayá massacre.

ChocóBojayá

With the presence of government entities, international organizations, diplomatic corps and the community of Bojayá , the public event was held in which each of the institutions presented the work done in this riverside municipality to the Atrato River.

The director of the Unit for Victims, Ramón Rodríguez, said that “the task is to continue working for the disappeared from this massacre, for which there is no information, so the invitation is for the Justice and Repair Truth System and guarantees of No Repetition so that we continue working closely to clarify the truth, claiming the truth, justice and, as Mr. President Iván Duque has said, a genuine truth and a genuine reparation.”

The entity has been performing a process of accompaniment and an investment of more than 2 billion pesos so that the families of the victims can, under their customs and rituals, perform the burial of their relatives “close a page of pain, mourn, but we know that we have a very big task and it is to mitigate the pain of families. The call is to continue working. ”

Another great task ahead is the attention of humanitarian emergencies that continue to occur in the territory.

Emergency care

Challenged with the situations of displacement and confinement that have taken place in some areas of the country, the director of the Unit for Comprehensive Care and Reparation for Victims said: “Today we must clarify to the country that the Unit for Victims is the main humanitarian actor, we know that international cooperation exists, but the Unit is the main humanitarian actor”.

Given this situation, the Unit is addressing all emergencies that are currently occurring in the national territory. "There have been more than 40 events, which have been attended in a timely manner. In Chocó there have been more events of confinement and mass displacement," said Ramón Rodríguez.

These events are being attended through a legal framework established in Law 1448 of 2011 that includes “the Transitional Justice Committees, and the activation of contingency plans. When we activate contingency plans, we activate the process to act by the territorial entity; we know of the capacities that the territorial entities have, but we also call the subsidiarity on the part of the governors’ offices and indeed we The Unit are there to attend the possible emergencies like confinements, humanitarian emergencies, massive displacements, as a result of confrontations and combats”.
