Rapid reparation strategy benefited 3,464 victims in six municipalities of Antioquia
This intervention brought psychosocial attention, acts of dignity and economic compensation to survivors of Vigía del Fuerte, Dabeiba, Urrao, Remedios, Ituango and Briceño, Antioquia municipalities prioritized in post-conflict.
With a day for victims in Briceño, the Rapid Comprehensive Reparation, Coexistence and Peace Strategy was completed in six municipalities prioritized for post-conflict in Antioquia, in which 3,464 victims agreed to psychosocial care, satisfaction measures and financial compensation.
In the closing day in Briceño, 188 survivors participated in a symbolic act of dignity and memory in which they exhibited paintings and weavings that they elaborated as part of their emotional recovery process. At the end, they received administrative compensation from the Victims Unit. In order to guide them for an adequate investment, they previously attended a fair on housing, generation of productive projects, savings, pensions and higher education.
Jorge Mario Alzate Maldonado, Unit Director in Antioquia, said that "with this strategy are 108 victims who get repaired with measures such as emotional recovery process and economic damages were delivered for 467 million pesos, with guidance for its proper investment".
The territorial director stressed that many of victims benefited "are peasants who have been part of a substitution processes of illicit crops as a result of peace agreements with FARC, so, with this reparation to victims is helping to consolidate peace in the territories. "
One of them is Fernando Albeiro Mazo, who suffered the forced displacement of LA MINA village 14 years ago due to clashes between guerrillas, paramilitary groups and the Army. "I was a victim because they almost hit me and because of the threats I took my wife and we came to the town in the hands of Army, who had taken me in illicit crops," said Mazo.
In recent years, he grows cocoa and thanks to this legal product "we are managing tranquility and now, that the State provides support, one feels good". This farmer already has plans to invest well the financial compensation he received as reparation to victims: "in addition to psychological support, this money I will invest to ensure the welfare of my family in a home and support his daughter with her studies."
Reparation that brings peace
The Rapid Strategy for Comprehensive Reparation, Coexistence and Peace was developed last year with resources from Multidonant Fund of United Nations for Post-Conflict in Colombia, in prioritized municipalities after the Peace Agreement with the demobilized FARC guerrillas. In its order, it was implemented in Antioquia in Vigía del Fuerte, Dabeiba, Urrao, Remedios, Ituango and Briceño.
During nine encounters, the 3,464 victims among adults, children and adolescents participated in psychosocial care for emotional recovery, measures of satisfaction (symbolic and memory acts), financial education and, finally, the delivery of financial compensation.
In total, during the seven years of implementation of Law 1448, the Unit for Comprehensive Attention and Reparation for Victims has delivered economic compensation to more than 854 thousand survivors in Colombia, with a total investment of 5 billion pesos. Of that population, more than 208 thousand victims are in Antioquia.
