Prior consultation, trust bond with the indigenous shelter of Buena Vista (Putumayo)

Through autonomous spaces, professionals of the Victims Unit managed to determine with the community the damages in collective practices, generated by the armed conflict.

The process of prior consultation as a fundamental right of indigenous peoples was carried out in the Buena Vista shelter (Putumayo), within the framework of the collective reparation process that is being carried out with that community.

The bond of trust that was established with the population, who was willing to provide the necessary information and tools to advance in the characterization process where all the affectations caused during the armed conflict are identified in order to be repaired by the Colombian state

This day, arranged with the community, was attended by officials from the Ministry of Interior, the Ombudsman and participants from Nuevo Amanecer and Jai Ziaya Bain councils, who, through work tables, conversations and lingas of thought established the damages to the attributes in their collective practices.

The interpreters and translators of the Siona language were key in the communicative process, as the work methodology was directed by the indigenous people, who determined through a timeline: before, during and now, what were the affectations after the passage of armed conflict. There it was determined that their collective practices at the cultural level of uses and customs such as traditional medicine, ancestral knowledge, generational system, agricultural calendar, sacred and meeting places, enter the list.

During the event, emphasis was also placed on the issue of women in the management of self-care, the raising of children and how in the context of conflict they were greatly affected in their rights.

With this information collected in the Buena Vista shelter, damage characterization can be advanced. This community, which is made up of 592 people, is characterized by bringing together a significant number of displaced families from the municipalities of Puerto Asís and Mocoa, a variable that resulted from the Victims Unit who took over land and river transportation to provide Participation guarantees and energize the process.
