Children of Mayasquer indigenous reservation (Nariño), benefit from a school restaurant

The Victims Unit delivered two infrastructure works, in order to improve the conditions of Awá indigenous children and pastures living in the area.

In coordination with the Cumbal Municipal Mayor's Office, the Victims Unit delivered two school restaurants in the villages of Tiuquer and Tallambí, in order to improve the conditions of the AWA and Pastos indigenous children who live in the area.

Álvaro Cuaical, governor of the Mayasquer indigenous reservation, thanked the entities for reaching the territory with well-being for their community: “What we receive today is for the benefit of children, education, they are an implement of life for our youth, for the community in general. We thank the entity that has been at the fore with these constructions for our community, I am very happy and proud to have this team within our village”.

The Victims Unit made an investment in materials of more than 240 million pesos, while the Cumbal Mayor's Office was in charge of hiring qualified and unskilled labor to carry out this project.

In this regard, Alberto Ruano Malte, mayor of Cumbal, assured that “from the municipal administration we thank the national government, the Victims Unit, for this support and contribution to our communities, to our municipality. Thank you for being here present in our territory, inaugurating important works, for the benefit of our communities and our children, betting on peace, which is what we want and seek from our municipality”.

For his part, William Pinzón Fernández, territorial director of the Unit in Nariño, indicated that “From the border with Ecuador we are delivering two important infrastructures, two school restaurants that will contribute within the framework of the prevention of forced recruitment of the boys, girls and adolescents in this indigenous reservation”.

For his part, Arley Urbina, teacher at Inmaculada Concepción institution, in Tallambí hamlet, assured that "this restaurant is a very wide and multifunctional area, it will not only serve as a restaurant, it will also serve as a community service because of our customs and culture we do activities in December and January, we celebrate mingas activities, so this space will serve us for the whole community”.

The Victims Unit will continue with the reparation process that is being carried out in the territory with the Subject of collective reparation of the Mayasquer Indigenous Reservation.
