After 20 years of the attack, the Mitu community starts the diagnosis phase of the damage

The Unit for Victims, together with the community of Mitú (Vaupés), met to begin the phase of diagnosis of the damage of the Subject of Collective Repair of the Urban Area, as established by Law 1448 of 2011.

The Unit for Victims, along with 35 people, among members of the Impulse Committee, a group of weavers both men and women; and representatives from the community, began the process of diagnosing collective damage, with the purpose of identifying the damage and harm this population suffered in the context of the armed conflict and likewise, to be able to build a plan that allows the community to be dignified with reparative actions.

After 20 years of the attack on the city of Mitú, in which both civilian population and members of the Public Force, lived the harshness of this attack, the Unit hopes to be able to repair this community in a comprehensive manner, for which it is essential to identify collective, participatory and public way, the damages that the armed conflict left in this population located in the southeastern part of Colombia.

During the process of collective reparation, it is identified and works with the population how was the origin of this municipality, its operation, the beginning of the armed conflict in the territory and, finally, to recreate the moment in which the events took place, caused so much pain and terrorized all of Colombia.

Carlos Arturo Pardo Alezones , territorial director of Meta and Llanos of the Victims Unit, praised the work carried out by the entity to recover the trust of civil society and contribute to reconciliation.

The subjects of collective reparation are those peasant and neighborhood communities, ethnic peoples, organizations, groups and social movements, preexisting to the facts that victimized them, who suffered serious and manifest violations of Human Rights and violations of Collective Rights in the context of the armed conflict, as stipulated in Law 1448 of 2011.
