Collective reparations progress in Ataco (Tolima department)
Last Thursday, the community of Ataco took an important step in the process of collective reparation with the Victims Unit. Dozens of victims of the internal armed conflict of seven different lanes in the municipality Ataco gathered in Canoas de San Roque to officially open the cultural house, in an event called ‘Obras y acciones por la paz’ (‘Work and actions for peace’).
Last Thursday, the community of Ataco took an important step in the process of collective reparation with the Victims Unit. Dozens of victims of the internal armed conflict of seven different lanes in the municipality Ataco gathered in Canoas de San Roque to officially open the cultural house, in an event called ‘Obras y acciones por la paz’ (‘Work and actions for peace’).
Within the framework of this collective reparation process, and the return and resettlement initiatives, the Victims Unit and the mayor’s office had a dialogue with the inhabitants about this new cultural environment, trees were planted by the youngest in the area, and both entities delivered school materials, chairs, desks, and others.
Jorge Orlando Sánchez, territorial director in Tolima department, said that ‘peace is built in the territories, in our houses, our lanes, with victims, by restoring the social fabric.’ By the end of 2014, more than 122,000 million Colombian pesos had been invested to provide victims in Tolima with attention.
