The Victims Unit delivered 1,000 kits with food and toiletries that will benefit around 5,000 people from 48 paths in the shores of river Mira. These families became victims of the conflict after an attack perpetrated by the FARC-EP that caused the worst ecological damage known in 10 years. Around 10,000 oil barrels were spilt some kilometers away from the aqueduct in the municipality of Tumaco. This situation brought a severe crisis due to the lack of clean water and the scarcity of food for the population. The Unit prioritized these families whose means are based on fishing and seashells.

Javier Patiño Mora, territorial director of the Victims Unit in Nariño department, explained that ‘the delivery of these elements will be helpful for the families. We hope to mitigate the pain and suffering of this community. We ask the community of Nariño to support these families. In the Victims Unit, we keep on paying attention to the needs of the communities most affected by the armed conflict.’
