The victims in Hacarí already have a modern multifunctional space and shelter
It is the second project that comes into operation in Norte de Santander, to benefit populations with PDET programs (Development Programs with a Territorial Approach), prioritized in the Peace Agreement.
In order to promote spaces for assistance, accommodation, and coexistence, the Victims Unit, the UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) in Colombia and the Mayor's Office of Hacarí, inaugurated the "Multifunctional Space and Shelter" that It will make it possible to strengthen care for the communities affected by the violence in Hacarí, Norte de Santander.
The deputy director of Prevention and Attention to Emergencies of the Victims Unit, María Cristina Carreño Santoyo, explained that the work aims to provide a comprehensive service to the community, especially to the population victim of armed conflict and "that is used to workshops, community meetings, trainings, as well as for different community activities and, in the event that a displacement occurs, this work will serve as a shelter”.
For her part, the territorial director of the entity in Norte de Santander and Arauca, Alicia María Rojas Pérez, pointed out that the project will contribute to dignify the attention and assistance of people who live the consequences of violence. "I met this building two years ago, it was a fairly old, deteriorated building, it was a school, which served to house our victims in those difficult moments. We are very happy to deliver this work, thanks to the UNHCR and the Hacarí Mayor's Office who were attentive to carry out a project that our victims as well as the entire vulnerable community can enjoy”.
The Hacarí president, Deiby Bayona, indicated that the multifunctional space and shelter is the work with the greatest impact built in the municipality: “Immense thanks to each of those who contributed to this great work; Today we feel satisfied and happy, this work beautifies our municipality, there are opportunities for everything and we are very pleased; thanks to those who accompanied us as UNHCR and the Victims Unit”.
The hostel with three-story construction has six lounges, rooms, sanitary units, kitchens, after store, warehouse and basement, among other structures that will allow activities focused on promoting spaces for coexistence and reconciliation among the community.
“A work that will be for all the victims of Hacarí. We know that we cannot stop the armed conflict, but with these spaces and scenarios we can dignify the attention and treatment of this population that has been violated in its human and fundamental rights”, said Robeiro Muñoz, Hacarí's official.
The inauguration was held in the presence of community leaders, delegates from the victims' participation table, and civil authorities who jointly expressed their gratitude to the non-governmental entities and organizations that made its implementation possible.
