In Costa Rica, the Unit analyzed needs and new actions in favor of victims residing in that country

The Unit’s Director and Subdirector met with the Ambassador in charge to evaluate the rights satisfaction and reparation measures for victims abroad.

During the first day in Costa Rica, where an assistance and reparation event is being held for the conflict victims residing in that country, Director Ramon Rodriguez, and Subdirector, Lorena Mesa, were part of a meeting with the consul and ambassador in charge, Liz Jerez.

The objective of the meeting at the diplomatic headquarters was to evaluate the rights satisfaction and reparation measures for victims abroad.

“During the meeting we identified difficulties, needs and articulation possibilities. Similarly, entities that can offer programs in favor of Colombian victims were identified in terms of income generation, job placement, education, access to basic rights, and legal and psychosocial guidance,” said Director Rodriguez.

Rodríguez Andrade also said Costa Rica is the eighth country with the highest number of registered Colombian victims: as of September 30th, they reached 772.

The Unit’s Director stated this year in Costa Rica 229 victims have been compensated for a value of 2,261,042,503 COP. "With regard to individual and group psychosocial care, in 2020, 26 conflict victims benefited from the implementation of the Group Emotional Recovery Strategy through the victims' organization Ecos de Colombia."

Finally, the Director stated that the Costa Rican consulate “has been one of the consulates that has updated and located more contact information. It has helped Colombians who need guidance regarding sending bank documentation for the Technical Method beneficiaries”.
