In Viterbo (Caldas) the victims weave their life projects

The Victims Unit in the Coffee Axis, through its psychosocial care component, continues to implement the “Weaving ourselves” strategy, aimed at beneficiaries of the Returns and Relocations program in the departments of Caldas, Quindío and Risaralda.

About 75 victims of armed conflict due to the fact of forced displacement and who have already returned or relocated in different places after having suffered from the horrors of armed conflict, continue with their process of rebuilding the social network through the implementation of the psychosocial program "Tejiendonos”, An initiative that is implemented in the towns of Dosquebradas (Risaralda), Armenia (Quindío) and Viterbo, in Caldas.

After four meetings out of seven that make up the strategy, the beneficiary families that live in Valles de Canaán Urbanization, in Viterbo, show their progress in terms of being able to heal the wounds left by having to be protagonists of a displacement and again dream of being able to meet life goals such as owning your own home, studying or having their own businesses

“The implementation of this strategy has allowed us to reestablish the social network in the community, in Viterbo we have found a group of very active leaders, who have been empowered by autonomous actions and have had the voice to achieve greater local integration and good participation in the meetings held, we hope by the end of 2020 to be able to complete the process and leave a positive footprint in the community", said Laura Moreno, territorial director of the Victims Unit in the Coffee Region.

Within the meetings, issues closely related to psychosocial support with community scope are addressed and accompaniment exercises are proposed for communities immersed in the process of return and relocation, which make sense to the extent that they are carried out in the territories where they live, seeking to strengthen in them the meaning of "community".

In this regard, Jennifer Pineda García, leader of the area, said that “the work that has been done with the Victims Unit in our community has been very good, we have responded in a good way and we have integrated quickly; This has brought with it a strengthening in coexistence, in values, in rights, in respect, which helps us a lot in the neighborhood. We are very satisfied with the exercise that is being done with the Unit to rebuild our life projects”.

In compliance with this activity four thematic axes are developed: Community recognition, Construction of a sense of community, Processing of conflicts and Public and citizen participation; in each of these axes, actions with the community, with the leaders (seven meetings) and autonomous actions that are implemented by the same population are contemplated, seeking to contribute to their integration process.
