A monument was inaugurated in Neiva in honor of police and civilian victims in the context of the armed conflict
The Victims Unit participated in the inauguration of the Pedestal "Edificadores de paz” (Peacebuilders), together with the National Police and other entities, to dignify victims and survivors of conflict.
In the facilities of Plaza de Banderas of the Transport Terminal of the city of Neiva in Huila, the act of unveiling of “Edificadores de Paz” was performed, the sculpture built in honor of the 15 police and civilian victims of the attack on Bomb house perpetrated by the extinct guerrilla of the Farc, on February 14, 2003.
The protocol act was attended by various national authorities, such as the Presidency of the Republic, the National Center for Historical Memory, senior officers of the National Police as hosts of the activity; among others close to the commemoration.
Yhina Paola Lombana López, Territorial Director of the Victims Unit in Caquetá and Huila, said: “Our mission is to lead actions of the State and society to fully attend and repair the victims, and thus contribute to social inclusion and peace. We do not want this to be another monument in the city, but that it reflects the feeling of people, that it does not bend in the face of adversity, and that it stands firm in its purpose of integrally accompanying the victims of painful pages of our history”.
The construction of the monument was carried out with the contribution of the Victims Unit concerning construction materials worth about $ 14 million and the National Police for an amount of $ 92 million; and it was developed within the framework of the Prevention and Emergency Assistance Management process, with the purpose of supporting the entities through social and community infrastructure projects with a view to dignifying survivors of conflict, reparation and non-repetition of victimizing facts of the past.
