177 survivors of the conflict received more than $ 1 billion as a measure of reparation, in Antioquia

The Unit for the Attention and Reparation of Victims delivered the reparation compensation to these survivors of the conflict living in the capital of the department.

As a measure of economic reparation, the Victims Unit gave 177 survivors of armed conflict compensation totaling 1,050,830,428 million pesos.

The beneficiaries are over 74 years old, with disabilities or terminal illness, in accordance with the prioritization criteria established in resolution 1049 of 2019, of the Victims Unit.

The director of the Unit in Antioquia, Wilson Córdoba Mena said that “we began with the delivery of compensation to victims who have suffered the consequences of violence, so that the entity in Antioquia between January and February of this year will deliver 1,300 survivors their economic compensation in the amount of 6.798 million pesos as part of its integral repair”.

Córdoba Mena also said that “the entity's officials carry out the accompaniment in order to guide the victims benefited with this measure of reparation so that they can manage these resources they receive.

"With these deliveries, we began this year fulfilling the victims of the department, where there are already more than 250,000 victims who have benefited from this measure of reparation during the eight years of implementation of the 1448 law", said the director.

These add up to more than one million survivors across the country who already have this remedial measure, in recognition of the crimes suffered, such as homicides and forced disappearance of family members, kidnappings, forced displacement, terrorist acts, personal injuries, and crimes against sexual integrity

Ligia Margarita, one of the victims who benefited from this delivery said that “12 years ago I left displaced from Zaragoza, I had to live a very horrible tragedy because my son was killed by armed groups, so I had to go to Monteria, and to improve my quality of life I came to Medellin, where I finally got the money to buy a house”.

Another of beneficiaries of this day was Angela Ocampo, suffered three displacements in the East of Antioquia, today at age 77 she receives the economic compensation with which she can improve her quality of life. During the day I assure that "I am happy, with this money I will pay some debts and to be able to operate one of my eyes".

In total, the Unit for Comprehensive Attention and Reparation for Victims has invested 12 billion pesos in Colombia (2.7 billion in Antioquia) for individual repair, humanitarian and emergency aid, community infrastructure projects and subsidiary support to territorial entities for the attention of the population affected by the conflict. And economic compensation has been given to one million and forty thousand victims worth 6.60 billion pesos”.
