Victims of Lomitas and San Miguel (Norte del Cauca), one step closer to their comprehensive reparation
During 2020 and despite the pandemic, these collective subjects worked in search of reparation as victims of years of war in their territories.
The Victims Unit in Cauca, together with the communities of Lomitas, in Santander de Quilichao and San Miguel, in Buenos Aires, articulated actions that allowed the fulfillment of reparation measures included within the Comprehensive Collective Reparation Plans (PIRC) for their communities affected by the conflict in North of Cauca.
Among the actions carried out as a whole, there are ancestral medicine meetings, handicraft and gastronomy meetings, talks on conflict resolution, delivery of fish farming projects, development of infrastructure projects, training sessions on prevention of gender-based violence and endowments of school furniture, among others.
Deployment in pandemic
“During the months of November and December, the entity worked together with the community, to provide school furniture, this within the framework of prevention, seeking that young people have suitable spaces to study and thus keep them away from possible events that affect their educational training. Likewise, we deliver agricultural projects to families in these territories, strengthening food security and of course economic productivity since with these farms they will be able to commercialize whatever is produced”, said Dan Harry Sánchez Cobo, Cauca territorial director of the Victims Unit.
The official stressed that these actions are framed in the implementation of the Peace Agreement. "We know that to achieve the peace that is desired in our territories, it is necessary to arrive with social investment, for this reason the national government is articulated to carry out actions that recover and strengthen educational, recreational and agricultural spaces".
For his part, Javier Peña, president of San Miguel Community Action Board, stated that “on behalf of the community we are very grateful, this year we have managed to implement actions that allow us to recover many customs and traditions lost due to the conflict, I want to congratulate to the community for their great effort and to the Unit for supporting the reconstruction of our community affected by the war”.
In this way, the Victims Unit in Cauca continues to reach the territories affected by the conflict, in search of actions that generate the reconstruction of the social network affected by the violence.
