Indigenous women initiate their collective reparation by sharing ancestral knowledge, in Amazonas
In the Tarapacá district, leading women transmit their knowledge of traditional medicine to the youngest.
Through different meetings with the seven indigenous communities that are part of the Collective Reparation Subject Association of Indigenous Traditional Authorities of Tarapacá Amazonas (ASOAINTAM), the Victims Unit accompanied activities focused on strengthening, transmitting and teaching knowledge of midwives and prayers.
The meetings were held in groups of 10 to 14 people, (all members of the communities) within which three are women with ancestral knowledge and who, due to the armed conflict in the region for several years, did not feel safe to be able to transmit to the youngest girls everything about traditional medicine to attend childbirth, relieve pain and other discomforts that were presented to the members of their community, causing their tradition to be forgotten.
The Victims Unit, in order to accompany this strengthening and recovery of their uses and customs and assist the rehabilitation measure to which this subject is entitled ASOAINTAM, for being victims and being recognized as a subject of collective reparation, began these autonomous days.
The activity had the participation of 72 people, 63 women and 9 men who supported the exchange of experiences related to practices to heal physical, nutritional and spiritual affectations, which for the indigenous communities of Alto Cardozo councils, Centro Cardozo, Bajo Cardozo, Peña Blanca, Tarapacá, Inga Alpha Atum Sacha and Quinina Yaco, are of great importance.
Carlos Pardo Alezones, director of the Unit in Meta and Llanos Orientales, explained that the Unit for Victims provided all technical assistance regarding the coordination of the action, construction of methodological scripts and all the support that the community requires so that the implementation of the collective reparation measure will be carried out successfully and thus guarantee their rights.
