High Mountain Communities (Bolívar), will have sports training schools

The schools would be implemented in the towns of Santo Domingo de Mesa, Macayepo, Guamanga, Caracolí, Lázaro and Raizal.

As part of the actions implemented to compensate the damage caused by the armed conflict to Alta Montaña Collective Reparation Subject, located in El Carmen de Bolívar, six itinerant sports training schools for volleyball, basketball, micro-soccer, soccer, softball and a of the most welcome practices in the area such as the disco (frisbee), for children and young people of the 11 townships and 52 sidewalks that integrate to the subject.

A concerted measure that guarantees the right to education, recreation and sport and that will be implemented by the Victims Unit in coordination with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Bolívar Government and the Mayor of El Carmen de Bolívar.

“We celebrate this articulation for the process of repairing the High Mountain. The invitation is for the territorial entities to continue complying with the commitments to fully repair the victims” said the territorial director of the Unit in Bolívar and San Andrés, Miledy Galeano.

For the community it is an important advance since it will allow to provide recreation and leisure space for the young people who are part of this SRC, as expressed in the virtual meeting for the concertation of measures of the Comprehensive Collective Reparation Plan (PIRC).

“For us, sport is a fundamental pillar in our process of reparation, integration and reconciliation. We have been carrying out sports activities with the 'High Mountain Regional Tournament', which has been very useful during this repair process”, said Miledys Vásquez, member of the promotion committee.

The schools would be implemented in the townships of Santo Domingo de Mesa, Macayepo, Guamanga, Caracolí, Lázaro and Raizal and will be rotating as sports venues are adapted, another of the actions that will be worked on in coordination with the departmental and municipal governments.

UNDP joins this initiative with the delivery of sports equipment worth $ 44 million.

For its part, the departmental government will support the creation of schools as expressed by Jesús Durán, manager of Bolívar Institute of Sport and Recreation (Iderbol): “This year the schools would be created and the practices would be for next year when it ends the health emergency, decreed by the national government. We have a team of professionals who will be providing guidance to these communities”.

In this regard Jorge Montes, leader of the High Mountain, indicated that it is "important that the instructors are recommended by the communities, in our area there are sports graduates and we ask the entities to do what is necessary so that these schools are well equipped" And added that "we must train children to be able to get professionals in our communities".

The Mayor of El Carmen de Bolívar, for its part, committed to the appointment of an instructor, the authorization of the adaptation of the sports spaces of Caracolicito and Guamanga and review for the legalization of the properties of the pending scenarios.
