Community Kanalitojo, of Vichada, received compensation
Conformed by 163 inhabitants of the Amorúa, Saliva and Sikuani towns, it received the notification of compensation as a measure of the Comprehensive Collective Repair Plan (PIRC).
The Victims' Unit notified the administrative compensation to the Kanalitojo indigenous community, located in the rural area of the capital of Veracruz.
The community was declared subject of collective reparation in 2014 and on June 8 it celebrated and endorsed the final document that contemplates twelve actions of measures of restitution, rehabilitation, satisfaction, guarantees of non-repetition and compensation in the social, political and economic components, and that highlight above all the recovery of their cultural identity.
Carlos Arturo Pardo Alezones, territorial director for the Meta and Llanos Orientales, reiterated that "thanks to the efforts of the Unit for Victims, the Colombian State and the empowerment of the community, these advances in reparation are a reality and are being given so that the inhabitants of Kanalitojo can rebuild their lives."
The notification day, which took place in the school of the resguardo, was also celebrated by the indigenous community. Marco Julio García Achagua, governor of Kanalitojo, thanked the Unit once again for the support and accompaniment.
"We are happy. I thank the Victims Unit for the work and support, they have become like family of the community. Thanks for that compensation, it is a strengthening for the community, since we have many needs, "he said.
With the resources of the compensation, the community hopes to strengthen the collective project of sustainable cattle production of cattle, among other organized practices of their own economy, which they have been developing in their territory.
