Afro-community of Bellavista - Bojayá received its collective compensation

With a value close to $ 268 million, survivors of armed conflict living in Bellavista - Bojayá will be able to undertake new productive projects with these resources.

The facilities of Chocó Territorial Directorate of Victims Unit served as the stage for delivery of the Resolution ordering the payment of collective compensation to Afro Community of Bellavista reparation subject.

The event was headed by the territorial director Chocó of Victims Unit, María del Rosario Palacios Córdoba and the collective reparation team of the entity.

Compensation is one of five measures of integral reparation and, in the case of collective reparation, is granted only to ethnic communities or peoples. This economic compensation aims to contribute to the strengthening of life plans and / or ethno-development projects, emphasizing the restoration of economic conditions, both in terms of economic autonomy and food security.

The Unit, in addition to granting the economic resource, develops an accompanying plan to guarantee the effective investment of resources in the implementation of productive projects for which the communities have decided that they are destined.

"It is an important advance, in the issue of collective reparation, we will hold an assembly where we will socialize the possible projects to invest these resources such as banana processing, borojó packing, fishing, as well as promoting cocoa," said José de la Cruz Valencia, leader of process and member of Afro community of Bellavista.

For her part, María del Rosario Palacios Córdoba, director of Victims Unit in Chocó, said that "for the entity it is gratifying to see how we are fulfilling the restoration of rights to a community; We will be ready to follow up and strengthen what this community requires in the middle of reparation process, in this collective case.
