"Forgiveness is a personal decision": Alan Jara
During his visit to the city of Valledupar, the director of the Victims Unit attended the media; he met with public servants of the territorial office in Cesar-Guajira, with members of the roundtables of local and departmental participation and participated in a discussion with other entities responsible for implementing the Victims Law in Cesar department.
The Hotel Sicarare in Valledupar (Cesar department) served as headquarters for the dialogue about entities responsible for implementing the Victims Law in Cesar (in Spanish, SNARIV) and was attended by the director of the Unit for Victims, Alan Jara; Cesar governor, Francisco Ovalle Angarita; the mayor of Valledupar, Augusto Daniel Ramirez, and House Representative Cristian Moreno, among others.
During his speech, Jara highlighted the meeting with members of the municipal and departmental participation roundtables held in the morning. "With regard to Snariv I must say that I feel very good about what the Army has done with that scheme delivering military cards".
He added that “the victims are part of Colombian society”, and that “figures show that one in six Colombians is victim, which means that the whole society has a responsibility”, and expressed the importance of having the help of private sector “to help us on the issue of employability," said Jara.
Meanwhile, the governor of Cesar referred to the agreement reached between the National Government and the FARC and the coordinated work with Snariv entities in the region. "The conflict in this region left much blood and family bereavement and today we turn that page," said the governor.
During the event, Jara was accompanied by Juana Ramirez, Victims Unit’s territorial director in Cesar, and together they handed resolutions about the inclusion and acknowledgement in the official register of indigenous peoples Kankuamos, Yukpa, Wiwa and communities Yukpa Iroka and Wayuú as subjects to collective reparations.
