The President of the Asociación Nacional de Usuarios Campesinos (‘National Association of Peasant Workers’ - ANUC), Luis Alejandro Jiménez, highlighted on Tuesday the determination and strength showed by President Juan Manuel Santos in the peace process that is taking place in Havana, Cuba.

‘Mr President Juan Manuel Santos, you can be certain that in spite of the difficulties that may have appeared in the way, the determination and commitment of the government to look for peace has probably the main acknowledgement and social support of the Colombian peasants, especially those affiliated to ANUC,’ Jiménez said.

The association celebrated its 45 years or rural organization in the Palacio de los Deportes of Bogotá. Jiménez added that this sector is an ally, promoter, and defender of the peace dialogues that aim to bring an end to the internal armed conflict.

He also highlighted the work developed by the Victims Unit. ‘She (Paula Gaviria) and her team in the Victims Unit are making us trust again, bring again hope in the State actions (we didn’t believe anymore). But the most important thing is that she is helping us to leave behind the fear imposed by war. Thanks to that, we are meeting again here today,’ said the ANUC’s leader.
