Every 11th of October, survivors and relatives of the victims of the genocide against the Patriotic Union (UP, by its initials in Spanish) gather to commemorate the dignity of their leaders and loved ones. As usual, the Victims Unit’s director Paula Gaviria Betancur participated in the dignifying event that took place in Bogotá yesterday.

‘For the National Government, it is an honor to support the National Day for the Dignity of the Victims of the Genocide against the Patriotic Union, especially when our country is living a significant moment in the negotiation process that aims to put an end to the conflict that has lasted for more than 50 years; a conflict that has caused more than seven million victims,’ Paula Gaviria said.

She reiterated the importance of the survivors of this political party in the peace building process. ‘You, the victims and relatives of the Patriotic Union play a leading role in this longing for peace. Thanks to your persistence and strength, today we have the privilege of building and dreaming of a different country,’ she added.
