The Victims Unit delivered humanitarian aid to displaced people in Policarpa (Nariño)
A total of 89 families who were displaced by the violent events that occurred on August 31, 2020, were benefited with humanitarian aid provided by the national, departmental and municipal governments, and with the support of the Public Force.
The Victims Unit, in coordination with the Government of Nariño, the Policarpa Mayor's Office and cooperating entities, delivered eight tons of humanitarian aid to displaced families on the grounds of clashes between groups outside the law in the district of Santacruz, jurisdiction of the municipality nosy.
The community received the aid with satisfaction, which they described as appropriate to assist the affected families. “It is the first time that they act so fast in these situations where we really need people; Today a very large aid arrived, eight tons of food, God bless all the people who have collaborated for the benefit of these communities. I think that is the most important thing, it is what we really need that they come here to the field, that they become aware of the communities directly”, said Adolfo López, president of the Community Action Board of Madrigal rural district.
For the territorial director of the Victims Unit, William Pinzón, "from the first moment these events occurred in Policarpa, just as we have been doing in the other events that have occurred in the department, the transitional justice committees, security councils and in this way we generate attention in an articulated way to reach, as at this moment, to the territory with comprehensive help”.
For his part, the Secretary of the Government of Nariño, Francisco Cerón, indicated that it is satisfactory to see how in Nariño the inter-institutional spaces for the articulation of the Public Policy of Victims are working: "We have arrived in the Madrigal district and we are serving the families. We want tell the entire community that we will continue working hand in hand with the community and from all levels of the State to be able to arrive more effectively to serve them”.
Finally, the mayor of Policarpa, David Sánchez, extended “a recognition to all the institutions, which have proven to be important allies, although the violence has worsened, we also know that working together will always make the problem bearable".
The 89 beneficiary families received the humanitarian aid kits from the Unit and other entities, ctaxes on food, hygiene items, sports items and educational kits, among others.
