Three communities victims of displacement strengthen territorial roots in Cúcuta
Through a community dialogue, representatives of victims of Ciudad Rodeo, Cormoranes and San Fernando del Rodeo updated and adjusted the actions of the return and relocation plan in the social interest housing projects of the eight commune of the north-eastern capital.
In order to strengthen territorial roots and advance in overcoming the situation of vulnerability, in Cúcuta the victims of armed conflict as returnees and relocated from three sectors of the Juan Atalaya citadel, met in an open dialogue to socialize achievements, progress and objectives to be met within the framework of the comprehensive repair plan.
The activity led by the Victims Unit included the participation of representatives of the surviving population of armed conflict of Ciudad Rodeo, Cormoranes and San Fernando del Rodeo.
“We are conducting a process of accompaniment to hundreds of families who reside in these social interest housing to improve their living conditions with durable solutions that allow them to guarantee their coexistence, their social, economic and security environment. With the community dialogues, we seek to listen to the communities to monitor, update and adjust the projects that allow them to rebuild their social network and generate sources of income for their support”, said Alicia María Rojas Pérez, director of the Victims Unit Norte de Santander and Arauca.
The official recalled that the initiative benefits families victims of displacement that today are part of the return and relocation plan implemented by the Unit, with the people and households who voluntarily decided to return to the site where they were displaced or settle in a place other than the one where they were forced to leave.
In Ciudad Rodeo there are families in this condition who, through social and community infrastructure projects (sports and cultural venues, paving projects, educational provision, furniture), seek to improve their living spaces.
Multifunctional and communal kiosks, as well as a project for electrification and improvement of sanitary batteries in open spaces, are some of the initiatives proposed by the community for its execution. "They are spaces that are recreational for the community and that would be very good for Ciudad Rodeo community", said the president of the community action board, José Medina.
Young victims of armed conflict in Cormoranes sector actively participated in the event. The paving of the main road, the construction of a sports arena and the execution of a bio-healthy park are the projects proposed by the community. “It has been an excellent accompaniment, in the neighborhood we have disagreements in terms of security, among others, and the Indeed, being here is something we wanted because of this they are giving us answers about what we could obtain in our sector”, said Freyman Ramírez, community leader.
The day was accompanied and assisted by the Secretariat for Peace and Post-Conflict of the Cúcuta Mayor's Office, which will contribute to the implementation of the actions as established in Law 1448.
