In order to evaluate and follow up on cases of threats to human rights defenders, determining the activation of the protection route and generating preventive police actions that guarantee the integrity, life and freedom of these people, the Mayor's Office de Barrancabermeja called entities such as the Army and the National Police, the National Protection Unit, the Municipal Ombudsman, the Provincial Attorney and the Victims Unit to a space.

The meeting took place within the framework of Decree 1066 of 2015 and in compliance with the Prevention and Protection Policy (Decree 1581 of 2017).

According to Amparo Chicué Cristancho, territorial director of the Victims Unit in Magdalena Medio, “in this space, the entity has an important role to the extent that it provides accompaniment and technical assistance in the construction of the Contingency Plan and of course in the construction of the protection route to serve these leaders in the context of immediacy”.

Likewise, in this space "the Unit provides guidance on the delivery of immediate humanitarian aid, in the components of emergency transport and to those that may arise, taking into account the policy of assistance and care," added the official.

During the meeting, the representative of the Victims Unit promised to continue with the accompaniment and technical assistance in the construction of the Contingency Plan for the 2020 period and in the application of the procedure for formalizing the subsidiary support for the same term, within the framework of Decree 2460 of co-responsibility for immediate care victims of other victimizing acts other than displacement.
