More than a thousand indigenous victims in Arauca, were favored with World Bank projects
Four indigenous communities received donations and productive and educational endowments to improve their living conditions within the framework of the comprehensive reparation plan, in this eastern department of the country.
With an initial investment of 95 million pesos, the World Bank and several of its projects contributed to the implementation of the measure of restitution of the subject of Collective Reparation of Betoy people, in Arauca.
The territorial director (E) of the Victims Unit in Norte de Santander and Arauca, Ana Yolanda Cañón Prieto, indicated that with the support of this international organization, the process of comprehensive reparation of Betoy indigenous peoples was consolidated with their Velasquero, Julieros, Rockers and Genareros Shelters.
The official said that more than 1,000 victims of this subject of ethnic collective reparation, benefited from a project related to the recovery of artisan knowledge of women, through productive initiatives, aimed at weaving and dressmaking that included endowment, training and marketing of products.
Likewise, the official maintained that the child and adolescent population, victim of armed conflict, was an essential part of the implementation of the restitution measure with the provision of school furniture and collective technological elements in the four schools and Betoy Indigenous Educational Center.
Cañón Prieto, stated that in the process the reconstruction of the social network was managed, in order to recover traditions and memories. He added that the projects had an investment of more than $ 300 million, which were consolidated during various phases in 2019, assigning more than 600 elements and units that strengthened the educational, technological and productive system of these communities.
