Unit implements strengthening actions and guarantees for leaders

The purpose is to strengthen participation in the victims' tables and the joint construction of Collective Reparation Plans with a differential and gender focus.

Within the framework of the delivery of the Action Plan of the Comprehensive Guarantee Program for Women Leaders and Human Rights Defenders, the Victims Unit reaffirmed the commitment to women who fulfill this fundamental role and confirmed that they continue to implement strategies in this sense.

This was reported by the entity's deputy director, Lorena Mesa, who explained that the participation of women and their leaders in decision scenarios continues to be guaranteed.

"We have implemented mechanisms so that in the protocolization and implementation of collective training plans so that we can have the participation of all women in decision-making, as well as in reparative measures", he said.

Mesa said that the Unit is constantly working to guarantee the rights of these women in the territories, so “this plan is key to carry out empowerment processes”.

Its pronouncement was given during the session of the Intersectoral Commission on Guarantees for Women Leaders and Human Rights Defenders, in which the Action Plan of the Comprehensive Program of Guarantees for Women Leaders and Human Rights Defenders was delivered by the National government, headed by the Ministry of Interior and the Vice Presidency of the Republic.

Undoubtedly, this program becomes a fundamental piece for the work of people like Elsy Quintana survivor victim of conflict of Mampuján and today she is the leader and defender of Human Rights of María La Baja, Bolívar. “After the displacement and the acts of violence, from there I have had an open heart to work with the women victims, that is why I thank the Victims Unit for the support they have given us in the municipality, especially women human rights defenders", she said.

According to María Angarita, director of organization "Narrar para Vivir", in Montes de María region, the Comprehensive Guarantee Program for Women Leaders and Human Rights Defenders of the National Government stands out, saying that “the Unit has worked on the repair collective that is powerful because it helps rebuild a social network and points to collective harm”.
