Statistical management of Unit on displaced persons, considered a good practice in an expert meeting

The Victims Unit participated in the 3rd Global Meeting of Expert Group on Statistics on Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (EGRIS), held in Turkey.

The Victims Unit, together with delegations of statistical authorities from 33 countries and 20 regional and international organizations, participated in the 3rd Global Meeting of the Group of Experts on Statistics on Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (EGRIS).

The meeting, which took place on February 12 to 14 of this year in Ankara, Turkey, was organized by the Center for Economic and Social Research and Training of Islamic Countries (SESRIC).

Oscar Iván Rico, coordinator of the Group of Attention to Victims Abroad, presented the process for the statistical production of indicators of overcoming the situation of vulnerability for the displaced population in Colombia.

Among others, this will be a good practice included in the Manual for Compilers of Statistics on Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons, to be presented before the Statistical Commission of  United Nations at its 51st session in 2020.

The Group of Experts, led by the United Nations Agency UNHCR, the Statistical Commission of  European Union EUROSTAT and the National Statistics Institute of Norway STATISTIC NORWAY, is part of the global platform of United Nations where better statistics and better coordination in the global response to internally displaced persons and refugees, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals, within the framework of 2030 Global Agenda.

In the world there are 40 million internally displaced persons and 25 million refugees according to figures from 2018 of Global Report on Internal Displacement and of UNHCR.
