Canada will invest 43,500 million pesos in reparations and protection for children and young victims of conflict
The project will go from 2016 to 2021 and will serve to provide a timely and adequate response to this population affected by the armed conflict in the regions of Valle del Cauca, Nariño and Chocó.
The Government of Canada announced this week the investment of 18.9 million Canadian dollars (over 43,500 million pesos) for the period 2016-2021 for the project 'Leading the peace; support for the rights of children and adolescents in Colombia '.
This project aims to strengthen the capacity of the Victims Unit to provide protection services and compensation to victims in the municipalities of Buenaventura (Valle), Tumaco (Nariño) and Quibdo (Chocó), benefiting more than 84,000 children, girls and young women and 56,000.
The initiative, which will be implemented by Plan International Canada, with its local partner Plan Foundation, is one of five projects to support the post-conflict in Colombia, announced by the Minister of International Development and Francophonie of Canada, Marie-Claude Bibeau, during his recent visit to Bogota.
"We are pleased to move forward in these cooperative relationships that allow positively influence the present and future of our young victims," said Alan Jara, director of the Unit.
"Colombia can continue to count on Canada's support in this new era of peace and prosperity. The projects announced today (Tuesday) will help women and young Colombians to lead and become agents of peaceful communities," said Marie-Claude Bibeau.
"This project will strengthen not only the Unit but also to the entire National System for Victims to give an increasingly timely and appropriate response to children, adolescents and young people," Jara said.
