The Unit in Córdoba joins the commemoration of the International Day of the Victims of Forced Disappearances

With different activities, the Territorial has guided and accompanied the process of reparation to relatives of the victims of forced disappearance.

In the department of Córdoba, 4.646 people have been identified as victims of forced disappearance, according to the Unique Registry of Victims (RUV), 727 historical compensation has been delivered for a value of $ 15.680.320.141, and so far in 2020 there have been they have paid 28 indemnities for a value close to $ 623 million.

Through the specialized team of the Directorate of Reparation and its psychosocial focus group, the Territorial Department continues to develop strategies that provide accompaniment to the families of persons suspected of missing.

Within the framework of the different support strategies that have been carried out between 2019 and 2020 are:

• The week of victims of enforced disappearances (27-31 MAY 2019): A meeting was convened with the relatives and a symbolic act called “The Light” was held, which represents hope and the burning flame to find their relatives.

• Psychosocial support in the dignified delivery of corpses: In 2019, in coordination with the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation, the department of Córdoba, accompanied three dignified deliveries of the corpses of victims of forced disappearance.

• International Day of Forced Disappearance (August 30-2019): The psychosocial group accompanied the families of victims of disappearance in the elaboration of a human figure in cardboard, which represented the disappeared loved one. The psychology professionals explained the objective of this activity, which consisted of family members reflecting the characteristics that they most remembered about that person; both in her physical features, as well as her wardrobe. This allowed people to heal the wounds caused by the victimizing act. On the same day, a walk was carried out that culminated in Bolívar Park, where the relatives had the silhouette of their missing relative on display, with the aim of generating solidarity in the Monterrey community.

• The week of victims of forced disappearances (May 26 to 29, 2020): Taking into account the virtual nature of the national emergency, allusive messages were sent to the victims by means of posters, social networks and videos through the territorial team in all the country. In the same way, the members of the tables for the effective participation of victims of the department of Córdoba were linked to this activity.

• Commemoration of the International Day of the Victims of Forced Disappearances (August 27, 2020): Within the framework of this commemoration, the Córdoba territory held workshops to support emotional care and active listening. The general objective was to dignify the victims and relatives of the crime of forced disappearance, providing a space for workshops in which organizations already constituted such as ASVITI-Organization of Victims of Tierralta-Córdoba, had the opportunity to talk from their experience throughout their search path to strengthen their organizations.

 “We will continue working for the opportunity of hope, so that the pain of the victims who suffer this scourge is mitigated. We sympathize with each family that is experiencing these moments” affirmed Mareila Burgos, territorial director of the Unit for Victims in Córdoba.

The Unit in Córdoba, through the psychosocial group, is an active member of the Departmental Table for Forced Disappearance. With these actions, the process of comprehensive reparation has been implemented for those affected by the scourge of forced disappearance in the context of the country's armed conflict.
