the Victims Unit guaranteed care during a pandemic, with adjustments and virtuality

The general director, Ramón Alberto Rodríguez Andrade, highlighted the delivery of 62.000 compensation and humanitarian aid transfers to 320.000 people.

The Victims Unit has made adjustments in its procedures and use of virtual technology, so as not to interrupt its operation throughout the country during the months of health emergency caused by COVID-19 and continue with its missionality.

This was indicated by the general director of the entity, Ramón Alberto Rodríguez Andrade, in an interview with RCN Radio Medellín: “During the pandemic caused by the coronavirus, the entity has had to make many adjustments and adapt to virtuality to continue treating the victims”.

In that sense, he reported that during the last five months, “62.000 compensation payments were advanced for the victims with an investment of $ 477.000 million and more than 320.000 victims benefited with $ 185.000 million in humanitarian aid, in addition to attending more than two million victims for the virtual channels”.

Likewise, the director of the Unit added that through the "use of virtual tools, actions have also continued with the different communities and groups recognized as subjects of collective reparation in various regions of the country", including Antioquia.

On the other hand, the official reported that, through the Subdirectorate of Prevention and Emergency Attention, attention is provided on and accompaniment to the families of the victims of homicides in different areas of Colombia, among them the cases that occurred in Samaniego (Nariño), Venecia (Antioquia), Arauca and Cauca.

Rodríguez also reiterated in the radio interview that the entity works together with other entities in the "strengthening of protective environments for children and adolescents to avoid forced recruitment and its use by illegal armed groups".

Finally, he pointed out that the Reparation Fund has 1.624 assets handed over by former members of Paramilitary groups of Colombia, which are in the process of administration and monetization to generate resources to pay the compensation ordered by court rulings of the Justice and Peace Law.
