The director of the Victims Unit, Alan Jara, holds talks on the peace process in New York
The director of the Victims Unit shares his experience in a talk with other victims of the conflict, as Juan Carlos Villamizar; General (R) Oscar Naranjo and Father Francisco Jose de Roux.
Alan Jara, director of the Unit for the Victims, will talk Saturday on the dialogues that keep the national government and the FARC-EP for four years in Havana, as part of the Service Fair organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia in New York (United States).
Along with General (R) Oscar Naranjo, the priest Francisco José de Roux and Juan Carlos Villamizar, advisor to the National Center for Historical Memory, Jara will share his experiences as a member of the delegations of victims who presented their testimonies at the negotiating table. Also, it will reflect on the challenges that assumes as new director of the Unit for the Victims.
The conference, victims abroad will receive attention; artistic performances will be held, such as the musical performance by Herencia de Timbiquí, and consulting services will be provided in health, education or housing, among others.
United States is the third country from where Colombia has received more applications for registration in the Register of Victims (870), behind Ecuador (1171) and Canada (909). Of these, 106 statements were presented at the consulate in New York and were referred to the Victims Unit for evaluation.
The fair will be attended by the director of Consular Affairs, Ambassador Javier Darío Higuera, and Colombia's consul general in New York, Maria Isabel Nieto.
The event will take place at LaGuardia Community College-Performing Arts Center, Queens, NY. 31-10 Thomson Avenue, Long Island City, NY 11101 (Building E), located in Thompson Avenue between Van Dam Street and Skillman Avenue, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
