Traditional knowledge leaders discussed stories about their territories, in Amazonas
Knowing the ancestral issues of the seven indigenous peoples that make up the CIHTACOYD council, they extend their knowledge so that, despite what they have experienced due to the war, their ancestral practices remain intact.
Amazonas is a department that reveals the imposing Colombian jungle and the natural and cultural diversity that characterizes this department from the rest of the country; In addition to this, its inhabitants have a mystical connection in terms of their ancestral traditions and their roots in the land.
Midwives and ancestral knowers still exist in this area of the country and they play an important role in the 79.020 inhabitants of the Amazon. Despite the suffering that they have also suffered due to the armed conflict, they continue to share with young people all their knowledge about their history, origin and importance of the land in their customs.
The Victims Unit, in its mission to contribute to the reconstruction of these indigenous peoples who were affected by the war, has accompanied each of the encounters that they consider necessary to recover their traditions and not leave them in oblivion.
In this way, 20 knowledgeable people from seven peoples that make up the indigenous council "Heirs of tobacco, coca and sweet yucca CIHTACOYD" met to discuss the origin stories of their territories, the importance of the land in their life and the need to continue strengthening it, so that the legacy of these communities is not extinct, because understanding their origins allows them to prevent, protect, manage and take care of their territory, in order to energize and fulfill the mandate sent by the creator to the indigenous peoples.
In this regard, the territorial director Meta and Llanos Orientales of the Victims Unit, Carlos Pardo Alezones, explained that, “strengthening the identity of the communities is a fundamental part of the reparation, since this is not only economic, but integral; in other words, in the measures of restitution, rehabilitation, satisfaction and guarantees of non-repetition”.
