The Victims Unit participates in the Governors' Summit taking place in Bucaramanga
The director of the Unit, Alan Jara, stressed Thursday the importance of further progress in the care and compensation to victims in the Colombian regions.
The Summit of Governors Santander 2016, whose theme is 'Peace will live in the territories' and has the presence of the 32 sectional leaders of the country and Alan Jara, director of the Unit for Victims, among other senior officials of the national government, stared Thursday in Bucaramanga (Santander department).
With the conviction that the territories will be vital to consolidate peace in Colombia, Jara highlighted the importance of strengthening public policy in the different municipalities. "We will be in dialogue precisely about reparations, post-conflict and victims. And considering the particularities of the regions," said the director of the Unit for Victims.
The governor of Santander, Didier Tavera Amado, welcomed the leaders to the department. "We have a responsibility as citizens and leaders. There is a generation that should not be condemned to what we live with more than eight million victims," Tavera said.
"The Unit for the Victims will continue to work for the reparation of those affected by the conflict, with a regional focus and prioritizing participation and collective reparation in the departments," said Alan Jara.
It is anticipated that the President of the Republic, Juan Manuel Santos, will dialogue with the 32 governors, who have the responsibility to become agents of peace in their territories.
