New leaders of Urabá and Darién subregions receive advice from the Unit on policies focused on victims
With the leadership of the Territorial Directorate of the Victims Unit, the new municipal administrations strengthened competencies and institutional capacity to respond to the needs of the survivors of conflict.
In a first meeting with the elected officials of the municipalities that make up the Urabá-Darién Territorial, he emphasized the importance of incorporating public policy for victims in the development plans of municipal administrations and receiving accompaniment and technical assistance by part of the Victims Unit.
The event held in Apartadó, attended by the leaders of municipalities of Carmen del Darién, Riosucio, department of Chocó, the mayor of Arboletes and office delegates from the other municipal mayors of the north and south of Urabá, Antioquia.
Elizabeth Granada Ríos, Urabá-Darién territorial director, explained to the presidents the routes of individual and collective reparation, and clarified concepts about the processes that are being executed in the territory, such as returns and relocations, participation, prevention and emergency care, among others.
“This work table was carried out with the objective of advancing in the accompaniment and articulation approaches that allow strengthening the competencies and institutional capacity of the new municipal administrations to respond to the needs of victims of armed conflict settled in their localities and incorporate into their Development Plans, the actions to repair them as the elements immersed in the Peace agreement, taking into account the challenges and projects that are coming to the municipalities”, said Granada Ríos.
Conrad Valoyes Mendoza, Mayor of Riosucio, Chocó, highlighted the activity and significance of the event. "The perception that I took today from this first meeting, is that I observe that the victim’s office, based in the municipality of Apartadó, is doing a good job and they are summoning us so that in our development plans the policy of victims, according to law 1448, so I leave happy and pleased since this was a good invitation”, he concluded.
The next meetings, to advance in the accompaniment, were scheduled for days 20 and 21 in municipalities located in the south of Urabá and, 27 and 28 with mayors of the municipalities of northern Urabá. Both administrations include the Chocó administrations.
