Project of the Government for the extension of the Victims Law will be ready at the end of February: Unit for Victims

According to the executives of the entity, it will be governed under four guidelines: it will not be regressive, the principle of responsibility will apply, there will be greater investment of the expenditure and it will have a high efficiency component.

The Victims Unit announced that at the end of next February will be ready the Government project that establishes the extension of Law 1448 of June 10, 2011, which dictates the measures of attention, assistance and integral reparation to the victims of armed conflict.

The announcement was made this Wednesday in the framework of the Executive Committee of the National Victims' Table that is being carried out in Bogotá, in which the Deputy Director General of the Unit, Lorena Mesa, indicated that the entity is willing to listen all the necessary observations: “We are open to have a construction dialogue. There are some jurisprudential bases that seem very important to us; there is a livelihood on which we must continue with respect to a transitional mechanism”.

The official stressed that the project will have a sense of responsibility in several aspects such as “in the legal, constitutional issue and a sense of responsibility as Colombians in terms of the expectations that the law has left in the country and how we can meet the victims”.

The topics that have been working on this modification They focus on immediate attention and humanitarian assistance, victims in the National Development Plan, collective and individual integral reparation, participation, prevention and protection, and returns and relocations, among others.

This document will be presented by the National Government to the Congress of the Republic in March of this year, date on which a new legislative period begins, and will be previously socialized with the victims, control entities and other entities of the national order.

On the other hand, the deputy director Lorena Mesa, clarified that the entity is fully complying with article 208 of Law 1448, which establishes the delivery of a balance of the implementation of the Victims Law, which will have a special chapter of the National Table for the Effective Participation of Victims.

The deputy director took the opportunity to clarify that this year 127,000 victims will be compensated with a budget of one billion pesos.
