
Writs of protections against the Unit decreased by 35% in 2018
Last year, the protections writs filed against the entity were around 73 thousand, while in 2017 they had been close to 112 thousand. The pending resolutions, both to the actions of guardianship and to appeals against decisions of the Unit, were also reduced.

With the priority placed on improving care, assistance and reparation to the survivors of conflict, the Victims Unit managed in the year 2018 to reduce by 35% the amount of tutelage actions filed against the entity.
It was also fundamental a legal strategy that allows greater efficiency in the resolution of protection actions and other legal appeals filed with the entity. Under the leadership of the Legal Advisory Office, and with the participation of all the mission and technical areas of entity, it was possible to go from 112,160 protection actions in 2017, to 73,130 in 2018. And those that remained pending were 2,380, December 2018, while in 2017 there were around 6,000.
Similarly, the amount of appeals filed by the victims against the decisions of the entity was reduced pending resolution. "We solved a little more than 39 thousand as of December 2018 and 100 resources were left pending, which is an important amount but there is still an opportunity to resolve them. We are giving an effective response to the victims in the face of decisions that have been put to the consideration of the office, "explained Vladimir Martin, head of Unit's Legal Advisory Office.
Due to the results obtained in the matter of protection writs, the entity received an important recognition from the State Legal Defense Agency. "This is a work that has had the support of international cooperation, for example from USAID and IOM, articulated with all the technical and missionary directorates, the general sub-directorate and the general direction; we managed to reduce in a significant percentage the actions of guardianship filed against the entity, "said Vladimir Martin.
