"We ask the ex-paramilitaries who are returning to the country to tell the victims the truth": Ramón Rodríguez

The director of the Victims Unit urged the postulates of the Justice and Peace Law to deliver goods that can be quickly monetized for reparation to those affected by the armed conflict.

Bogotá, D.C.Bogotá, D.C.

The director of the Unit for Comprehensive Attention and Reparation to Victims, Ramón Alberto Rodríguez Andrade, made a call to the former paramilitary chiefs who availed themselves of the Justice and Peace Law, and who are returning to the country after having paid penalties abroad, to tell the victims the truth about what happened in the context of conflict.

Rodríguez said that “we hope that the arrival of these postulates is accompanied by the truth. The Truth Commission and the Special Jurisdiction for Peace (JEP) have been asked to, on this occasion and through these transitional justice mechanisms, reveal the truth of what happened during the conflict.

“The victims are not only asking for financial resources and compensation, but for the truth. The postulates of Justice and Peace, such as Jorge 40 or Mancuso, must count it through the mechanisms established by the Transitional Justice”, added Ramón Rodríguez.

The director also petitioned the former members of the armed groups to allow the monetization of the goods delivered in order to repair the victims and compensate them through administrative and judicial channels, as indicated by the judges.

"The call is also for the former paramilitary chiefs to hand us goods, which can really be quickly monetized", concluded the official, given the difficulties currently faced by the Reparation Fund for the commercialization of the goods the postulates have delivered in development of their processes.
