Victims Unit accompanied demonstrations held to protect social leaders of the country
The Director General of the Unit for Victims, Ramón Rodríguez Andrade, accompanied the walk that began in the monument of India Catalina and culminated with a shout of protest in Plaza de la Paz Square, and which was attended by the president of the Republic, Iván Duque Márquez, senior officials of the National Government, departmental and municipal authorities and members of human rights organizations.
"Life is respected, life is sacred," with this slogan, hundreds of people answered the call and marched for the defense of the human rights of leaders in the city of Cartagena.
With harangues, messages of struggle and conservation of life, the participants walked from the monument of India Catalina to the Plaza de la Paz.
The President of the Republic, Iván Duque Márquez; the Minister of the Interior, Nancy Patricia Gutiérrez; the Ombudsman, Carlos Negret and the General Director of the Victims Unit, Ramón Rodríguez, accompanied and rejected all acts against the lives of men and women who work for the defense of human rights.
"We participated in the march in the company of president and the Ombudsman. We march because many of those threatened are in the Unique Victims Registry. We work on the Timely Action Plan so that there is no more threatened or murdered leader", said the managing Director.
The walk reached the square and with a collective shout the marchers said no to acts of intimidation and murders of leaders and social leaders.
The death of María del Pilar Hurtado, in Tierralta, Córdoba, and the murders of ten social leaders were the reasons to go out to the streets and squares in the 58 cities of Colombia and abroad and defend life and peace in the territories.
