Bogotá, D.C.

The voices of older persons, the importance as leaders in their communities, will be heard in a meeting that will take place in Cartagena. In this city, victims of the internal conflict, from the Caribbean region, of 60 years of age or older, will share their experience and knowledge.

In Colombia, around 10% of the total population is over 60 and up to 701,659 people are included in the Single Registry of Victims. In the Caribbean coast, 194,952 are over 60 in the departments of Bolívar (42,195), Cesar (33,366), Magdalena (33,283), Sucre (29,310), Córdoba (28,931), Atlántico (11,953), and Guajira (11,953).

María del Pilar Zuluaga Guerrero, of the Victims Unit, this is an important space, since it allows the State to become closer to victims. ‘We support this process because of its importance for the population (subject to special State protection), and because it allows us to strengthen the role of older persons and their impact in the public policy.’
