The Unit delivers materials for ceremonial house in Chachajo, Buenaventura

This work seeks to contribute to the recovery and strengthening of cultural traditions of this community, which suffered displacement due to the conflict in 2014.

The Victims Unit delivered the materials for the construction of the ceremonial house Demetrio Chamapuro to the indigenous community of Chachajo (Bajo San Juan, Buenaventura), benefiting more than one hundred families (500 people) of the Wownan ethnic group.

Luz Adriana Toro Vélez, territorial director of the Victims Unit in Valle del Cauca, indicated that this community was victim of forced displacement as a result of actions of the armed actors in 2014.

"The State, in order to advance in the assistance and reparation processes, carried out the formulation and approval of the return plan of this community in 2015. This project of construction of the shopping center is part of said plan and from there the importance that we are making this delivery", said the official.

The ceremonial house will allow to contribute to the recovery and strengthening of cultural traditions of this community, limited and affected in the middle of armed conflict.

"The previous house was fallen and with this project we want to recover it. We are already organizing our mingas to contribute to this work. When we finish we want to celebrate and give space to cultural expressions", said Parmenio Dionisabe, indigenous governor of Chachajo.

The materials delivered, which arrived this weekend to Chachacho by boat, are valued at $ 83 million and include elements such as cement, ballast, sand, tiles, gravel, among others. The community will participate in this work providing support in the operative and technical part.
