Displaced families receive humanitarian aid in Popayán
Seven family nuclei from the municipality of Balboa and Mercaderes, in Cauca, received food kits and other items from the Victims Unit, in subsidiarity with the municipality of Popayán.
In order to fulfill its missionary work, the Victims Unit carried out in Popayán (Cauca), the humanitarian aid day for those affected by displacement events that occurred in the municipalities of Balboa and Mercaderes, where, due to threats issued by groups outside the law, seven families had to abandon their territories. Dan Harry Sánchez Cobo, territorial director of the Victims Unit in Cauca, affirmed that it seeks, in coordination with legal representatives of the communities and the Mayor's Office of Popayán, to advance an extraordinary Transitional Justice Committee to analyze the situation of these families, of those that are also part of minors.
In this space, the deputy director of the Victims Unit, Lorena Mesa, the territorial director of the entity and, as operator, the aid worker Blumont, delivered food kits, kitchen items, hygiene and biosecurity to assist in a humanitarian and immediate way the 34 people affected by this event.
"For the entity and our cooperators, it is essential to assist all the people who have been forced to leave their territories due to threats from illegal groups. We want to provide and guarantee them all our support, so that they know that they are not alone in these complex moments", said Sánchez Cobo.
The displaced families are in the city of Popayán in the Shelter House of the ANUC (National Association of Peasant Users), where they receive priority attention from state entities.
