
About 500 people received hunitarian aid in El Charco, Nariño
In total, 457 people, displaced two weeks ago, received humanitarian assistance represented in food, toiletries and items such as crockery, pots, blankets, mattresses and mosquito nets, among others. The National Navy, Doctors of the World and the municipal administration participated in the delivery days.


Due to a massive displacement occurred on August 31, as a result of clashes between armed groups in that region, the Victims’ Unit delivered humanitarian aid to 457 people affected by that fact in the municipality of El Charco, Nariño.
In principle, assistance was given to 137 families -422 people- who arrived in the urban area of the municipality and come from the villages of Las Mercedes, El Cuil, Playa Grande, Matapalo, El Carmelo and San José.
Then the delivery of the aid was made to other families that are an hour and a half away from the head. Alberto Cuarán, official of the Emergency Prevention and Assistance Branch of the Unit for Victims in Nariño, explained that "the necessary was arranged for the transfer of humanitarian aid for another 12 families, which bring together 35 people, who are displaced from their places of origin and located in the educational institution of Pambilero.
The official explained that the entity works in close coordination with the municipal administrations and the Government of Nariño to deal with emergencies and respond with timely humanitarian assistance to the displacements in the region.
He also indicated that Law 1448 of 2011 mandates that a specific process be carried out for the delivery of humanitarian aid, which indicates that the requesting mayors must conduct the census of the population and, subsequently, make official the request for humanitarian assistance before the Unit; once the security conditions are met, the Unit coordinates the work to comply with the delivery to the respective population affected by armed conflict.
