Promoting human dignity regardless of differential cultural conditions, guaranteeing compliance and making effective actions and defense mechanisms to advance in the reduction of human rights violations, was the message sent by the victims of violence within the framework of the commemoration of December 10.

“During a day that we carried out in Cúcuta, complying with the biosafety protocols, we brought together representatives of the population affected by violence in this area of the country to generate and promote spaces for reflection and education that strengthen the participation of people who have been victims of atrocious acts that have violated their human rights. They today promote transformative actions and with their life stories they show us practical and inspiring examples that show the recovery and the promotion of a resilient and just society, which is committed to building peace with facts that contribute to coexistence and reconciliation", assured the territorial director of the Victims Unit in Norte de Santander and Arauca, Alicia María Rojas Pérez.

For their part, the attendees recognized the importance of the day, contextualizing this date in their social environments to analyze the actions that are promoted in compliance with and defense of human rights. In addition, they exposed the social transformation that they have generated from their life experiences.

“We are in this activity and it has been very important because we are making progress in the process of forgetting the past a bit, always remembering our victims. Today has been a very special day for us because they have taken us into account; the past must be left behind, we must learn to forgive and we have learned to know a little more about our rights: the right to life, freedom, expression and the right not to be a victim again”, said María Yamile Díaz, victim of armed conflict.

The methodology implemented by a team of professionals in psychology and social work from the Victims Unit was developed in three scenarios framed as follows:

• Subscribing: space where the participants recognized the importance of commemorating this date and its scope in each of their social contexts.

• Sowing: in this scenario they represented human rights, exposing their importance, benefits and defense of them today.

• Harvesting: in this space they made a report to give the viability of guarantees in the fulfillment of human rights to improve the living conditions of the population victim of violence within the framework of the reconstruction of the social network.

Amid the sanitary conditions that the country is going through as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the territorial director sent a message to eradicate any type of structural discrimination and racism. He invited to act in the face of inequalities in the midst of the health crisis, protect the economic, social and cultural rights of the population affected by the armed conflict and in a vulnerable condition, promoting the participation and solidarity of civil society in the face of development sustainable.
