The Victims Unit agreed to actions to advance the guarantee of their rights, in dialogue with indigenous Jiw authorities
The entity led a meeting in order to comply with Auto 173 of 2012, where it defined the most important and urgent issues to be executed with this community in the 2021 term.
El Trincho, a village in Puerto Concordia, Meta, was the meeting point with 25 indigenous authorities of the Jiw people. They have been located and settled in different reservations in this municipality for several years and have experienced the violation of their human rights and different acts of victimization, which is why the Victims Unit has been assisting them in special emergency humanitarian assistance for about eight years of return and relocation processes.
As a result of the foregoing, the entity led a community dialogue meeting to identify actions that lead to advance in the effective enjoyment of their rights and improve compliance with decree 173 of 2012. On this day the most important topics were also defined important and urgent to be executed with them in the period 2021 and, in addition, it was accompanied by the Government of Meta and the Mayor's Office of Puerto Concordia
Five relevant topics were addressed in the activity: access to drinking water and basic sanitation, food security, effective access to health services, decent housing (habitability) and education. A diagnosis was made and it was concluded that their housing conditions are not the most adequate, health services are not provided quickly and that the food aid is being assumed mostly by the support provided by the Victims Unit.
These indigenous communities have lost part of their roots in the land and their cultural survival has been affected, given that they have suffered displacement as a result of threats from armed groups. In addition, given their ancestral beliefs, for them the land is a fundamental part of their reason for being and this has meant that every part that makes them unique has been affected.
“The development of these conferences is important for the Unit, like the other entities, to comply with this Order of the Constitutional Court, which dictates measures so that these types of communities can be attended to immediately and comprehensively in matters health, nutrition, accommodation and other aspects that ensure their survival”, said Carlos Pardo Alezones, territorial director of the Unit in Meta and Llanos.
