Territorial Magdalena Medio joins the commemoration of the Week for Peace in Barrancabermeja
The program includes Eucharists, talks, acts of forgiveness and a meeting of young peace builders.
The Magdalena Medio territorial unit of the Victims Unit will accompany the commemoration of the Week for Peace in the city of Barrancabermeja.
For Amparo Chicué Cristancho, Magdalena Medio territorial director of the Victims Unit, “as has been tradition in the last six years, different human rights organizations and entities that are present in the region, have been accompanying and calling for the commemoration of the Week for Peace, organized by the Pastoral Social and which has been developing for 33 years”.
“In particular, the entity will be at different events such as a discussion with the entities of the Truth, Justice and Reparation System and we will also be accompanying the event called 'Al río', which is a project that is being carried out by the Office of Coexistence and Peace of the Mayor's Office of Barrancabermeja that seeks a rapprochement and work with the youth of the Oil Port”, added the official.
The Week for Peace is a citizen mobilization whose objective is to make visible the daily effort of thousands of people who work in the construction and consolidation of peace, and of initiatives that dignify life. It is held the first week of September because on the 9th of this month, Human Rights Day is celebrated in Colombia and San Pedro Claver's Day.
According to Pastoral Social, the Week for Peace has been held for 33 years, supporting and making visible various citizen initiatives with actions and messages in accordance with the context and political moment of the country, and strengthening social awareness about the urgency of building in Colombia a plural, participatory, firm and lasting peace process, with a view to national reconciliation.
