"In Norte de Santander we have made progress in caring for victims during the pandemic": Ramón Rodríguez

More than 17,000 victims of armed conflict in a vulnerable condition are being benefited with administrative compensation and humanitarian aid amid mandatory preventive isolation.

In dialogue with the media in Cúcuta and Norte de Santander, the general director of the Victims Unit, Ramón Rodríguez, presented the management balance sheet carried out by the entity in this territory during the pandemic and amid the sanitary measures established by the Government to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The official noted that more than 14.900 survivors of armed conflict in this eastern department of the country are receiving humanitarian aid worth more than $ 9.931 million. "In these moments of the pandemic, the Victims Unit has not stopped. We have had to make all the adjustments to guarantee that each of the processes have the guarantees to provide services to victims", ​​he said.

In individual reparation, Rodríguez indicated that during the emergency the entity recognized administrative compensation to more than 2.000 victims in 28 municipalities of the 40 that make up Norte de Santander, with Cúcuta, Ocaña, Teorama, Tibú, Convencion, Hacarí and Sardinata, among others, the towns with the highest number of payments. "The elderly, people with disabilities and terminal and catastrophic illnesses are the criteria that we have been handling for the payment of compensation, we are opening the general route that also has criteria that will allow us to advance in payments", he explained.

He added that in the Catatumbo area, the Victims Unit has recognized the payment for individual reparation, during the COVID-19 period, to more than 1.200 victims for a figure greater than $8.600 million.

The general director referred to the telephone and virtual channels enabled in Cúcuta and the Catatumbo area to guarantee the effectiveness in attending to the different requests of the population in the midst of mandatory preventive isolation: “All our counselors are working from home attending and solving all the doubts and concerns of the victims that can be accessed with the identification number to check if they are in the unique registry of victims”.
